I’m excited to have Canadian author, Mark Bierman, featured on my blog this month. Mark is the talented author of Vanished, a high-octane story about a missionary trip to Haiti that turns into a treacherous rescue mission involving a missing child and human trafficking. Today, he’s sharing a heartwarming and uplifting story, called Cassie’s Wishes, which I know you’ll love.

Please welcome, Mark Bierman!

First, I would like to start out by thanking Lanie for the invite to her amazing blog. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know her via Instagram and must say that she is one of the most supportive authors I know. Aside from that, her writing talent is first rate, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading and reviewing her novel, Father of Contention, awarding it a well-deserved Five Stars.

My post today was inspired by world events and what I believe is a global longing for peace.

Cassie’s Wishes

Cassie took a deep breath and blew her wishes into the wind. It was getting dark, and Mommy wanted her home for dinner, so she got up and watched them drift into the sunset. Satisfied, Cassie went home, washed up, and sat down at the table.

“So, Miss, what did you get up to today?” Mother smiled.

“I blew some wishes out into the world.”

Mother handed Cassie a plate of spaghetti, her favorite, and winked at her. “I’d ask you what those were, but I know that takes away their magic.”

Later, as Cassie laid her head against the soft pillow, listening to the crickets and the hoot of Chester, the barn owl, she prayed that her wishes would find the right people.

As Cassie, slept, a great wind picked up and blew those wishes around the globe, over miles of ocean and into every country of the world.

One landed the shoulder of a grieving father, as he stood at the graveside of his ten year old daughter who’d died from leukemia. An inexplicable peace began to fill his heart.

Another drifted past an ICU nurse, as she left the hospital, exhausted, and discouraged from a never ending battle against COVID. Hope renewed some of her energy and lifted her spirits.

One landed in the lap of a little girl, as she sat in threadbare clothes, eating the last meal she’d have for awhile. Her rumbling belly ceased, and her heart was filled with the promise of a better tomorrow.

One landed on the shoulder of a teenaged Ukrainian girl. She was frightened by the sounds of the bombs, and invading soldiers, but she’d vowed to protect her homeland, no matter what the cost. She reached into her pocket and felt the sunflower seeds she’d plant when this was over. She knew her bravery would be rewarded, with freedom and peace. A fresh start without the fear of tyranny.

The last wish will land on you, wherever you are, and whatever you are going through. It will give you strength and resilience.

Cassie woke the next day, to a better world.

What’s it about:

Tragedy… heartache… how much more can Tyler Montgomery and John Webster take? This missions trip, the “healing” one, has only added fresh layers of pain. Construction of an orphanage in Haiti’s northwest… yes. But a doomed rescue operation, human traffickers, human anomalies, extreme personal danger… risk of death? They hadn’t signed up for those.

Turning their backs on the crisis, however, is unthinkable, it’s just not who they are.

 About Mark Bierman

Born and raised on a farm near Brockville, Ontario, Mark Bierman’s childhood consisted of chores, riding horses, snowmobile races across open fields, fishing trips to a local lake, and many other outdoor adventures. He was also an avid reader of both fiction and non.

Transitioning towards adulthood also meant moving from the farm and into large urban areas that introduced this “country boy” to life in the big cities.

Drawing on his many experiences as a private investigator and later a Correctional Officer, Mark combines his unique experiences and imagination to create his stories and characters.
