Happy new year! Welcome to my first blog post of 2022! As usual, I thought I’d start with a recap of the previous year…good ole 2021. However, since it was another strange, crappy, Covid-centered year, I’ll keep this part brief. Here are a few of my highlights from last year.

1) My third book, Sea of Forgetfulness, went on a virtual blog tour and won two awards, 2) four magazine articles of mine were published, 3) my son got his blackbelt in taekwondo, 4) Gatekeepers of Eden (the fourth book in my Father of Contention series) was launched, and 5) I participated in a test group for a new Beachbody exercise program called Job 1. Truthfully, though, the majority of the year was spent indoors – binge-eating comfort foods, watching way too much Netflix, playing video games, and blowing through my TBR pile of books.

So, enough about that.

Right now, I’m focused only on the future while wearing rose coloured glasses. Although I don’t tend to make new year’s resolutions per se, I do like to set goals to guide me and drive me forward (always looking forward, never back). This year is no different. I always aim a little too high…you never know what you can achieve until you try, right? Whatever I don’t achieve will just get pushed to the next year. No pressure that way.

Two things I’ve always wanted to accomplish were slated for January and are already checked off my list (being on lockdown has its perks…loads of free time, woohoo!). The first was to make a book trailer for Gatekeepers of Eden. The process was challenging for my computer illiterate brain, but somehow I managed to pull it off. You can give it a view by clicking the link on my main page (it’s right below my Gatekeepers of Eden synopsis). My second achievement was to start a newsletter, and I’m so excited to announce that it’s up and running. This monthly newsletter will highlight my latest blog posts, upcoming events, writing quotes, interviews with some of my favourite Indie authors, guest blog posts, and so much more. If you would like to sign up for my newsletter, the subscription form is on my main page.

Next on my list is to have a book blitz and virtual blog tour for Gatekeepers of Eden. The blitz is happening on January 21st and the tour runs from January 24 – February 7th. Check out my events page for the links to each website that will be highlighting my book for the tour. Along with my book being in the spotlight, there will also be book reviews, interviews, guest blog posts and more, so be sure to check it out!

For my writing goals, I’m currently working on my fifth book, Code of Reanimation, which I’m hoping to have published and released later this year. I’m not exactly sure when since I’m trying something new with this one…I’m searching for an agent to help me get traditionally published. (I literally say this every year, but this year I’m really going to do it…query letters, here I come!). It’s not that I haven’t enjoyed the Indie publishing world, I’m just ready to try something new. This book is by far the craziest thing I’ve ever written, and I love it. I hope you will too. Let’s just say it has zombies, paranorms, and cyborgs. And like most of my other books, nothing is what it seems. Several characters from my Father of Contention series make an appearance…Milena, Renner, Brigita, Amir, and even Paul (which will make a lot of people happy since he tends to be a fan favourite).

On the fitness front, I plan to attend Coach Summit 2022 in St. Louis. I’ll have to wait and see what’s happening with Covid-19 and it’s variants, but if all goes well I will be in attendance! I already earned a free ticket! This is an amazing opportunity to schmooze with all the Beachbody super trainers, participate in a variety of fun and challenging workouts, and learn more about the business. If you think this is something you would like to attend, let me know and I can get you the details. It’s going to be amazing!

My last goal pushes me way out of my comfort zone. As some of you may know, I have a phobia of public speaking. It’s not just a fear…it’s full-on panic attack mode with profuse sweating, dizzy spells, stomach cramps, and body tremors. I can’t talk properly or think clearly. What comes out of my mouth is not at all what I want to say. It’s my fight or flight response…to nothing…because I know there’s nothing to fear, and I really don’t care if people judge me. But, trying to rationalize the process doesn’t seem to help…this anxiety response is a part of me nonetheless. And it translates to posting videos…even if they’re prerecorded. Despite this, I’m determined to do a virtual book reading. I’ll be reading an excerpt from Gatekeepers of Eden. It might require a little wine…or a lot…to get me through. Will this be the first drunk book reading? Perhaps, but probably not. I’m sure there’ll be some embarrassing, memorable moments you won’t want to miss!

That’s all for now. This year will hopefully be a little more normal than the previous two years…whatever normal means these day. I’m trying to stay optimistic, even though we’ve started the year off in lockdown. I’m just going to continue on as if nothing is amiss…focusing on my writing, hitting my goals, and enjoying the good moments as they come!

Take care and keep reading!
